Wunmi Mosaku in Alberta Ferretti at the BAFTAs: perfection

June 2024 · 2 minute read

Please do not comment “who?” on this post. I am trying to highlight Wunmi Mosaku, a Nigerian-British actress who absolutely killed it in Lovecraft Country. I had no idea that she was British because her accent work is excellent, but more than that she was compelling and sexy on screen. If you haven’t seen Lovecraft Country and you like horror (it can be hard to take unless you’re a horror fan), please watch this excellent show. You will come away wanting to see more of the cast, particularly Wunmi. Last night at the BAFTAs Wunmi was nominated for best actress for her work in His House, a horror film about South Sudanese refugees in England. It’s on Netflix and I haven’t seen it yet. The trailer is terrifying and I’m definitely watching it, but not alone. If Wunmi is our new scream queen I’m here for it.

Her dress is Alberta Ferretti! I love the jewel tone and the classic off the shoulder silhouette. Her jewelry is so gorgeous too.

Vanessa Kirby was also nominated for best actress, for her work in Pieces of a Woman. I fast forwarded through that one as the film was really hard to take. Plus I can’t stand to see Shia LaBeouf after everything we know about him. Vanessa gave a great performance though. That category went to Frances McDormand for Nomadland. Vanessa is in Versace. I love how sleek this slate gown is.

Bukky Bakray was nominated for best actress for Rocks! She’s in Prada. She didn’t take home that category but she got the EE Rising Star Award.

Presenter Andra Day actually wasn’t nominated, which is bizarre to me. (She’s not British, but The BAFTAs are open to everyone.) She was lovely in a green Elie Saab gown with gold braid piping.

Dominique Fishback is definitely American and she was nominated for best supporting actress, for Judas and The Black Messiah. She’s in an amazing abstract print Georges Hobeika with a deep v-neck. We’ll be seeing more of her.
