There is an awesome dance music documentary film set to be released very soon, that features all of your favourite DJs. Titled, “What We Started”, this film is set to be a DJ documentary that you won’t want to miss. It is set to have various theatrical runs around the US, whilst it is currently available to pre-order worldwide via iTunes, ahead of the Miami Music Week premiere. The film will be released on 23 March 2018.
“What We Started” will premiere on 22 March 2018 during Miami Music Week at The Regal South Beach before the 20-year-sold-out anniversary of Ultra Music Festival kicks off. It is highly anticipated showing how the dance music industry has changed over the years.
There’s a bunch of content within the film that we are so excited to see come together. The trailer is beyond anything we could imagine. “What We Started” is a film that we needed in our lives before we even knew we needed something like this. It takes documentary films to a whole new level.
We see various DJs and artists interviewed in the film, these include the legends Carl Cox and Tiësto. It’s clear that this is a film for any dance music fan; especially since dance music has now become one of the most popular genres in the world.
At the forefront of the film is Martin Garrix, the guy who has gone from mixing in his bedroom to playing at sold-out festivals and gigs to charting on a massive global scale. We see him in the studio with Usher – who also chats to the camera in this film.
Other interviews and appearances come from the likes of Erick Morillo, Moby, David Guetta, Afrojack, Paul Oakenfold, and Ed Sheeran. We reckon we’ll spot other famous faces within the film – something that we can’t wait to watch. Pete Tong acts as Music Supervisor & Executive Producer.

The trailer isn’t the only promotion that has been released from the film. The “What We Started” Facebook page has also revealed an exclusive clip from the movie.
This clip shows Martin Garrix creating his international hit “Animals”. We hear from his manager, Watse De Jong, who talks about how they booked him for small shows, to start off with so that Martin Garrix could experience the club life.
We also hear from Moby, who chats about “Animals”, stating: “It’s an amazing piece of music. That’s an example of electronic music becoming top 40 that seems to have quite a lot of integrity around it.”
