Normally, the Drag Race Queens are happy to interact with their fans at meet and greets. But a new trend has many of the Queens uncomfortable, and now they’re speaking out against some fans’ latest idea of a “joke.”

Canada Drag Race star Stephanie Prince recently posted a controversial video to her TikTok and Instagram.

She captioned the video “Calling Queens by their government name PART 3.”

In the video, she approaches queens at an event and calls them by their government names. Many of the queens look shocked, or demand: “Did you just boy-name me?!”

Stephanie quickly updated the post to share that she had gotten consent from all of the queens involved.

“Disclaimer:” she wrote, “Everyone included in these videos (Part1, 2 & 3) were willing and gave consent! Also, dont ever come up to a queen and do this!”

Unfortunately, it seems like this trend may have taken off, and fans have started to do it as well.

Drag race star Victoria Scone took to Twitter to share an uncomfortable experience with a fan that she had recently.

“Not a rant but please don’t use my government name. At stage door last night a fan called me by that name & I’m not sure why. Perhaps I’ve never publicly said so i’m saying it now: I go by Vic out of drag. All friends, colleagues & even my partner calls me Vic,” she wrote. “Thank you! 💜”

She went on to comment on Stephanie’s video.

“I will add that Stephanie was respectful to ask my partner if I would be comfortable being called my gov name on video & Dani confirmed I wouldn’t be,” she wrote. “So I can only appreciate that as an individual situation.”

It looks like by and large, fans want to respect queens’ comfort, and came out in support of Vic.

“It’s absolutely disrespectful to call you by your government name!! Dunno who they think they are,” one wrote in her comments.

Many believe that it was Stephanie’s video that started the trend.

“It’s because at drag con uk some people did a video of calling queens by their government name and now of course other people are going to do it thinking it’s cool,” one fan wrote on Twitter, with another agreeing, “Maybe because if that viral TikTok from drag con where Stephanie was calling people by their Government name?”

Pixie Polite also chimed in with her own tweet.

“Keep my government name, out your f*ckin mouth,” she tweeted, without mincing words.
